Writing system

Gawri language had no writing system therefore people could not read and write in their own language. GCDP held numerous meetings with educated members of the community and developed the writing system for the language. Then GCDP developed fonts and keyboards as well for this script. Nowadays many youth of the community use android keyboard of this language on their mobiles.

Mother Tongue Based Curriculum:

GCDP mobilized the community regarding mother tongue based multilingual education. Community members showed strong support. GCDP developed curriculum for pre-primary year 1 and year2 in 2007. Two MLE Schools were launched in two different villages with the support of community in 2008. These schools demonstrated best performance. Many other village communities also demanded for schools in their villages. Thus GCDP extended schools up-to 8 villages and upgraded up-to grade 5. 

Children Library: 

GCDP started working on children’s library having multilingual books. These books were circulated in different MLE schools. Students were reading books with zeal and zest. Number of books is increasing day by day. Later GCDP established a separate reading room in its office. 

Writers Workshops for youth:

To preserve Gawri Language GCDP is continuously training people from Gawri Community through Writers’ Workshops where participants learn to read and write in their mother tongue. As a result, youth started writing Facebook post in their mother tongue. This is a great achievement. 

Food for Flood affected

Flood of 2010 washed away the houses, hotels, markets, crops and roads besides human lives. People were left in distress without sources of income as livelihood depends on agriculture. Farms were washed away while remaining vegetable could not be sold as roads to market were washed away. GCDP along with ORCHENOVA (a German NGO) distributed food packages to flood-affectees. 

Another food package was started as a joint venture with FLI number of beneficiaries is 300.

Blanket for Widows

GCDP being aware of harsh weather of the area comprehended the hardships of the affectees and provided blankets to 30 widows. 

Warm Cloths for students

GCDP distributed warm cloths to the students of MLE Schools which was funded by MS. Channa Franchy, MLE Consultant.

Concrete Houses for Flood Affectees 2010:

After the flood of 2010, many people were forced to live in tents because their houses were completely washed away by flood. GCDP constructed 10 houses for the affectees.

Fruit Plants

Agriculture of the area was badly affected by floods of 2010 and that of 2022. People of the area mainly depend on agriculture as primary source of income. GCDP distributed 1500 plants of apple, peach and apricot among farmers.

Seeds and Fertilizers:

 For the restoration of devastated agriculture, GCDP provided standard seeds of potato, cabbage and squash to the poor farmers of the area. Besides seeds they were also provided with chemical fertilizers. 

Earthquake 2015:

Devastating earthquake left many families homeless in 2015. GCDP constructed concrete houses for 10 earthquake affected families. 

Winter Kits and Disaster Management:

GCDP along with IDEA provided winter kits to 1270 vulnerable families. This included bed linen, blankets warm cloths and other tools. 

100 youths were trained for disaster management and they were also provided with rescue-Kits. 

Publications:

GCDP has published many books besides MLE Curriculum. Many books are trilingual i.e. Urdu, Gawri and English. A book on medicinal plants has also been published. Traditional history of Kalam and many other books on Gawri Grammar and Phonology were published by GCDP. A trilingual dictionary comprising 7000 entries has been drafted and will soon be published.
